The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime

Dir. Susanna Hook at The Geoffrey Whitworth Theatre

In 2024 I was asked to build Wellington the poodle for a production of Curious Incident. The Prop needed to feel and move like a dead weight and have the ability to have a pitchfork removed.  The director wanted the dog to be a black poodle

Who killed Wellington?

Close up of the head

Wellington needed to be realistic but readable on stage as due to his colour details might have been missed. I 3D modelled the head and used a mixture of faux fur and real sheep wool to get the colour contrast and texture I wanted. To give the convincing floppiness when moving he had an armature of PVC pipes. The fork was held up by a custom made handle that was counter weighted to keep the fork standing but easily removable on stage.
